Worldwide, the number of Covid-19 cases is now over 6.65 lakh; the death toll is 30,852 and 140,225 have recovered. The death toll in Italy has crossed 10,000 — at 10,023, the highest in the world.

Millions of homeless people and migrant labourers have been left in the lurch after India announced a 21-day lockdown in a bid to contain the spread of coronavirus in the country. Many have opted to walk hundreds of miles to their villages as public transport has been suspended. In India Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared nationwide lockdown immediately without further steps and preparations, thus leading many migrant labourers without food and shelter.

A 57-year-old female shrimp seller in China’s Wuhan city, the originating point of the coronavirus pandemic, has been identified as one of the first victims of COVID-19, which has claimed nearly 28,000 lives around the world so far, according to media reports. The coronavirus ‘patient zero’, who made a full recovery in January after month-long treatment, believes the Chinese government could have checked the spread of the disease had it acted sooner.
